As a wedding videographer who regularly films destination weddings for British, American, Brazilian, and European couples, I can say from direct experience: the answer is almost always local.

Why Portugal’s Light Changes Everything

Portugal has some of the most cinematic light in Europe. Filmmakers know this, dozens of international productions are shot here precisely because of light quality.

But that light has particularities a local videographer knows intimately:

Golden Hour lasts longer. In summer, golden hour in Portugal can last 60-90 minutes (depending on latitude and time of year). A local videographer knows exactly when it starts, where to position, and how to use every minute.

How to Choose Your Videographer

1. Watch full films, not just trailers. On Vimeo, look for 15-30 minute films. Trailers are beautiful but don’t show the ability to tell a complete story.

2. Check if they’ve filmed at your venue. A videographer who’s already filmed at your quinta knows the angles, light, and logistics. Ask and request examples.

3. Communicate what you value. Vows? Speeches? Party? Details? Tell the videographer what matters most, it allows them to prioritize.

4. Schedule a video call. Personal rapport matters. You’ll spend the wedding day with this person, you need to feel comfortable.
